About
Weaving Water: Looming is a site-responsive artist residency and public art initiative delivered by Treecreate Studio Inc. Scheduled for 5–12 October 2026 on Bribie Island (Yarun), the project transforms a traditional artist residency into a “living laboratory” that builds upon a 15 year inquiry into water as a connective element.
The idea of “looming” carries a deliberate dual meaning: it refers to the loom—a structure that enables weaving—and to a future that feels increasingly close and uncertain. Within this framework, the residency becomes a tidal loom, bringing together artists, engineers, scientists, community members and local ecologies as threads within a shared system of inquiry.
At its heart lies a productive paradox: water cannot be woven. It flows, shifts, and resists containment. Instead, the project weaves relationships—between people, place, knowledge systems, and technologies—transforming climate data into shared, lived experience through shared conversations and knowledge.
This project serves as a direct evolution of the 2023 Weaving Water @ Yarun residency and the subsequent 2024 and 2025 events.
Weaving Water: Looming also honours long-term collaboration and evolving deep continuity through partnerships with Pumicestone Indigenous Education and Employment Council, Intercreate Trust and Ethos Global Foundation who were all instrumental in establishing the project’s relational and cultural foundations on Yarun in 2023.

Costs
To register an Expression of Interest for the in-person residency is $55 AUD. This is a non-refundable registration fee which directly supports the running costs of this project.
Program (in progress)
7 October 2026 Round Circle conversation 10am to 2pm with a discussion “How can we work with nature to be more resilient now in into the future.” A group of invited participants will be sharing their perspectives on laws of nature, coastal adaptation and community activism. Details TBA

By bringing together creativity, science and community knowledge, the project encourages new ways of thinking about resilience, sustainability and our shared responsibility to care for the places we call home.
