Weaving Water: Looming

Yarun Bribie Island 5- 12 October 2026

What happens when artists, scientists, local knowledge holders and community members spend time together in one place?That’s the question behind Weaving Water: Looming, a creative residency that invites people to slow down, observe, make and share ideas inspired by the landscapes and waters of Yarun (Bribie Island).

The goal of this project is to collaborate with local and virtual community to cocreate an installation for the Bribie Island Nature Festival in 2026.

The name “Looming” speaks to weaving threads together. It is about building relationships, creating new ideas and strengthening the connections between people and place. Just as individual threads become stronger when woven into fabric, diverse perspectives can come together to create resilient communities. Looming also speaks to the climatic changes that are already impacting our communities and through meaningful dialogue and responding action we can be more resilient.

As part of the Looming program we will be facilitating a “round circle” conversation with a number of invited participants including Michelle Maloney from Australia Earth Laws Alliance and more to be announced soon.

Community responses

Community involvement is at the heart of the program and we will be hosting a number of workshops in-person and online in the run up to October to co-design the public artwork and residency program.

If you are a Weaving Water Alumni or keen to be part of our collective, we would love to have you for the in-erson residency 5-12 October. Treecreate Studio will be covering the costs of food and accomodation so you just need to find your way to our beautiful island. There are only a few places still available so we engourage you to register.
