It’s not you trying to do the weaving,
this Country is trying to weave you, this whole continent is you.

Decolonising the map

As part of the induction into the Weaving Water @ Yarun experience, participants took part in some cultural awareness training led by Community Elder Aunty Flo Watson and the Chair of Pumicestone Indigenous Education and Employment Council, Michelle Watson.

This was a very informative and important session which looked at how colonisation had impacted First Peoples in Australia, through the personal story of Aunty Flo. As part of the session, participants were invited to connect with their places and place a stone, stick or a feather where they connect to.

Over the time of the residency, participants continued to add their places, also bringing the locations of the virtual participants.

Thank you Aunty Flo, Michelle and all the participants for making this process so heartfelt and rich. The act of bringing deep connection to place and people offers a way of witnessing the world, history and law/lore which expands consciousness and our understanding of relational knowledge.
